Romanian woman who currently owns a bar in Rome has been decorated by Italian President Sergio Mattarella because she had the courage to denounce two members of a mafia clan.
Roxana Roman, a 34-year-old from Timişoara, has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Knight Grade, for her contribution in affirming the values of legality.
Distinction was given to the Romanian young woman by President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
Roxana owns a bar on the outskirts of the Italian capital, Romanina neighborhood, where during Easter, two members of the Casamonica mafia clan assaulted her husband Marian Roman and a disabled client.
Even if the two mafia members destroyed the bar and threatened not to warn the police, the Romanians did not scare themselves and denounced them.
It was a normal thing to do, said Roxana Roman. "There has been a lot of fear in the neighborhood, for a long time and there are many people who want to make a change", Roxana made a comment for the Italian press.
