The local Chief Inspectorate Commissioner, Cornel Iureş, as well as his deputy, Ioan Mudure, are now awaiting the decision of the central government.
According to Radio Timişoara, the center will conduct an investigation at the border police headquarters on Wednesday.
Last month, about 140 customs officials and border police investigators were arrested following raids on customs Naidăş and Stamora Moraviţa as well as on their homes.
75 people were detained and 15 arrested for taking bribes and facilitating the smuggling of cigarettes brought from Serbia.
On Monday the representatives of the General Inspectorate of Romanian Border Police began an inspection at Timiş, targeting activity between 2009 and 2010.
Cornel Iureş became Timiş customs police chief in February 2010, replacing Dorel Andras, who was promoted.
