The panel of five judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice set the next term for June 6 in "Quality Trophy" file after the court heard Wednesday the five defendants.
Over more than 12 hours, the former Prime Minister Adrian Năstase, Irina Jianu, Cristian Vasile Mihai, husbands Bogdan and Marina Popovici gave full statements in the file.
Adrian Năstase was the first to be heard by the court.
The former prime minister has maintained his innocence and argues, according to Agerpres, that the file prepared by the National Anticorruption Direction was a political action, proof of the fact that court heard 767 witnesses for the prosecution and only five of defense.
Adrian Năstase pointed out that there is no evidence against him to punish him and his only involvement in the "Quality Trophy" event was the participation at the end of the event, when he handed one of the prizes.
At the end of the statement, Adrian Năstase was asked by the prosecutor if the knows Grăjdan Constantin, former head of the State Inspectorate for Constructions , and if he met him during the "Quality Trophy" trial.
Adrian Năstase explained that he met Constantin Grăjdan about two years, because he is a member of the Departments of the National Council of PSD and attends meetings every Thursday at these departments, according to Agerpres.
Moreover, the former prime minister added that he discussed with Constantin Grăjdan on how to build new institutions and management structures, but have not talked anything about the "quality trophy" trial.
Constantin Grajdan, investigated by DNA
Former head of the State Construction Inspectorate, Adrian Grăjdan, is being investigated by DNA prosecutors to encourage the offender, after he sent to the Supreme Court an address to withdraw the institution of "the quality trophy" trial.
Adrian Grăjdan made this approach shortly after being sworn in by Prime Minister Victor Ponta even without the necessary approvals.
Former head of ISC was subsequently dismissed by Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
Former head of the State Construction Inspectorate, Adrian Grăjdan, is prosecuted by anti-corruption prosecutors for promoting the offender.
DNA accuses him, without having the right, that he sent to the Supreme Court an address through which he renounced, on behalf of the inspectorate, at the damages recovery in "Quality Trophy " file, in which has been sentenced to jail the former Prime Minister Adrian Năstase.
The National Anticorruption indicted in January 2009 the former Prime Minister Adrian Năstase on charges that in 2004 he could use his influence or authority of the president's party function to organize a symposium entitled "Construction Quality Trophy" for the purpose of gathering amounts of money for the presidential elections that he was supposed to participate.
In January 2012, Adrian Năstase was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and the former prime minister appealed.
