The president of the commission, social-democratic deputy Eugen Bejinariu, stated that if unconstitutional elements of the proposal are identified, other solutions will be found to reduce or eliminate the special pensions of parliamentarians.
Eugen Bejinariu: If it will be declared unconstitutional, we will surely find other solutions, I don't know, for taxation, it won't stay as it is at the moment. I mean, some things are going to happen in terms of this legislative provision.
From the opposition, USR voted to eliminate the special pensions of parliamentarians. USR deputy Cristian Seidler recalled that his party submitted a similar bill in Parliament.
Cristian Seidler: USR believes that parliamentarians' pensions, like all other special pensions, must be eliminated immediately, not in 20 years, not in 12 years, because there is a legitimate and constitutional expectation, moreover, of fairness, of common sense, of equal rights. The special pensions of MPs are privileges and they must be abolished.
The decisive vote on the document is scheduled for Monday, in the assembled plenary of the Parliament.
