Romanian heroes who fell on the Western Front were commemorated on Wednesday in Oarba de Mures, 80 years after the end of World War II. A march in their honor started on Tuesday in Bucharest and ended at the Oarba de Mures cemetery, and the occasion saw the inauguration of the first QR code that the National Office for the Cult of Heroes has designed for every monument it administers abroad.
Reporter: Marcela German - "The moving ceremony was attended by delegates from the Defense General Staff, the Mihai Viteazul 30th Guards Brigade, students, soldiers and servicemen wounded in theaters of operations, such as Lieutenant Colonel George Olteanu.
George Olteanu: "Personally, it's the first time I participate in this kind of activity. It is gratifying to pass on the respect for generations. We, the wounded servicemen, are the descendants and representatives of the Second World War veterans."
After the remembrance of the heroes, the first QR code was placed on a monument, explains the director of the National Office for the Cult of Heroes, Colonel Dan Dinca.
Dan Dinca: "I thought of a project to attach these QR codes to all war memorials outside the national territory. This code leads to the website of the National Office for the Cult of Heroes, where we can find information about the monument."
The march is also echoing online, says Captain Mirela Vata.
Mirela Vata: "I had a post yesterday where I showed the public a photo from exactly 80 years ago, from the Tatras - Romanian soldiers carrying crosses. We had an impressive reaction from the public. They shared hundreds of stories they heard from their grandparents. We want to collect all these stories in an article somewhere on the website."
The commemorative march will continue over the next three days, with ceremonies in cemeteries of Romanian heroes in Budapest, the Slovak town of Zvolen and the Czech city of Brno, where 25 mayors of towns liberated by the Romanian Army will receive commemorative medals for their efforts to preserve the memory of Romanian soldiers who fell in World War II."
