Romania's resident population is 19.043.767 persons, Romanian citizens and foreigners domiciled or resident in Romania, of which 9.764.011 are women, shows the NIS.

Romania's resident population stands at 19.043.767 persons, according to preliminary data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics after the population and housing census in 2011.

From the preliminary resident population of more than 19 million, 51,3 per cent are women, according to INS press on Friday.

Also, more than half of men (51,8%) and of women (53,7%) live in municipalities and cities, and throughout the country, the population density is 79.9 inhabitants per km².

NIS preliminary data shows that the most densely populated counties are Ilfov, Prahova, Iaşi, Dâmboviţa, Galaţi, Cluj, Braşov and Constanţa.

The lowest densities were recorded in Tulcea, Caraş-Severin, Harghita, Mehedinţi, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Arad, Alba and Covasna counties.

Preliminary data (as well as the provisional ones) of the census were obtained by processing the statistics indicators included in summary tables, drawn up by auditors after the period of data collection, for the 105.500 sectors of Census.

Romanians are 90,6 per cent of the preliminary resident population

Romanians are 90,6 per cent of the preliminary resident population over 19 million people, respectively, 17.263.561 centralized data reveals INS.

According to the free statements of persons enumerated, the structure of preliminary permanently population by mother tongue shows that 1.268.444 of persons are Hungarians (6.7 per cent of the population stable pre-release) Roman-247.058 (1,3 per cent), Ukrainians-49.547 people (0.3 per cent ) German-27.019 (0,1 per cent ), Turks (0,1 per cent)-26.179, Tatars-18.143 (0,1 per cent ),Russian-18.971 (0,1 per cent), other native tongue 73.169 (0,4 per cent) 51.676-language handbook (0.3 per cent).

The structure of permanently resident population by religion declared to the preliminary Census shows that 85.9 per cent of the people who live in Romania are of Orthodox religion, 4.6 percent declared themselves Catholic religion, 3.2 per cent of the reformed religion, and 1.9 per cent Pentecostal.

Weights ranging from 0,5-0,8 per cent registered the Greek-Catholic religions (0.8 per cent), Baptist (0.6 per cent ) and seventh-day Adventist (0.5 per cent ).

People of different religion than those presented above represents 1.8 per cent, and those who have declared "no religion" are in number of 23.900, respectively 0.1 per cent of the total resident population of preliminary.

INS specifies that roughly the same weight hold also the atheists, the number of these being of 21.200

Also, the number of persons for which has not been registered religion, did not want to declare or they were not presented at the the interview was 84.800 persons, representing 0.5 per cent of the resident population of the country.

The final results of the Population Census and housing 2011 will be announced in the second half of the year 2013.
