RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - A military ship, a mine and nets sweeper, left the Constanta Military Port for research missions in maritime districts in Romanian territorial waters, after the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate issued an opinion on the existence of mine danger in the northwestern part of the Black Sea.
Romanian sailors didn't notice mines in the areas where they patrolled, said the spokesman of the Romanian Naval Forces, Commander Corneliu Pavel.
Corneliu Pavel: “The leadership of the Romanian Naval Forces has urgently ordered the intensification of measures for the surveillance of the Romanian maritime space. In this sense, the mine and nets sweeper "Viceamiral Constantin Balescu" left the Constanta Military Port on Monday, March 21, to carry out research missions in maritime districts in the Romanian territorial waters. To date, no sea mines have been observed in the patrol area and no information has been received from commercial vessels. In the event that such reports are found, the Romanian Naval Forces are prepared to act with the appropriate means of counteracting."
The opinion of the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate was issued at the end of last week, based on information received from the Hydrographic Institute of the Spanish Navy, the institution that coordinates operational activity in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, having in mind a navigation warning issued by the Russian station in Novorosiisk.
