On Friday 21 June, the biggest indoor and outdoor theatre festival in Europe starts and it takes place in Transylvania, more precisely in Sibiu. From 21 June to 30 June, there will be 9 days of magic in the city on the Cibin, but the organisers have also thought of those who will not be able to get to the FITS venues during this period, and a whole programme of over 30 performances will be held online, in the categories of theatre, music, dance and circus.
Two world premieres, by Tim Robbins and famous Italian artist Pippo Delbono, will be available to watch online. These are Aphrodite and the Liberation of the World (A Greek Musical Vaudeville) by Tim Robbins, the famous American actor, a joyous celebration of the power of forgiveness and the strength of heart to heal even the deepest of disagreements, and The Awakening - a performance full of visual poetry and candour, with the famous Italian Pippo Delbono returning to Sibiu with this masterful, incisive, moving and unforgettable show-confession.
Other theatre performances that can be watched online are "The Story of the Ugly Princess" and "Games, Words, Crickets", directed by Silviu Purcarete, "A More Special Mermaid" by Pierre Guillois and Olivier Salvan and "The Seagull" directed by Dumitru Acris.
A total of 15 theatre performances will be available to watch online. In terms of music, the online performances start with the FITS Opening Gala - National Chamber Choir "Madrigal - Marin Constantin", directed by Emil Pantelimon, conductor Anna Ungureanu.
A landmark of musical life and cultural diplomacy, the Madrigal Choir is defined by its specific sound and vast repertoire, non-vibrato technique, stereophonic stage placement and imposing costumes.
In addition, online audiences will also be able to enjoy Kairos from Portugal, an ethno-jazz band with a style rooted in the Mediterranean soundscape, Gospel Touch Choir, one of the leading gospel choirs in the UK and the US, and Hispano, a cello-guitar duo from Barcelona combining the elegance of Spanish classical music with the intensity and rhythmicity of flamenco.
Circus performances complete the artistic picture at FITS with Julieta, a show that tells the story of a woman of many experiences and oddities, and that puts the spotlight on the many facets of old age, and Circus in African style, a show by Yamoussa Bangoura, inspired by everyday life in Guinea that brings to the fore the beauty, youth and art of African culture.
However, we recommend that you don't miss the FITS experience in the flesh and at least visit the streets of Sibiu during this period.
