Ten percent of the schools in Bucharest are not ready to start the new school year because the required sanitary permits have not been issued yet.
According to the announcement made by Sorin Oprescu, the Mayor of Bucharest, the problem related to the lack of doctors and nurses remains topical.
The same happens with the small number of places in kindergartens.
Sorin Oprescu added that "37 out of 425 schools lack authorisations for different reasons".
The Mayor said that those schools "have only one more week to check if all issues have been solved".
According to the Mayor’s opinion, the greatest deficit of places in kindergartens has been recorded in district 3 followed by district 5 and 2.
Moreover, Sorin Oprescu declared that "every people is optimistic, everybody talks about that the beginning of the new school year will not mark the lack of authorisations".
Taking into account that last year about 140 cases of assaults were registered in schools in Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu mentioned that he had proposed the establishment of an emergency dispatching centre supported by the Gendarmerie, the State and by the Local Police that should ensure security for pupils inside and outside schools within about one kilometre.
