On the occasion of the European Forum that took place in Paris, on Tuesday, Mircea Sandu, President of the Romanian Football Federation, was reelected as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee.
The President of the Romanian Football Federation was reelected after the second round of voting as in the first round he had not met the required number of ballots.
Thirteen candidates, including Mircea Sandu, stood for the seven free (2011-2015) seats as an Executive Committee member on a four year term.
After electing the first six members who, in the first round, cast the minimum number of votes – twenty-seven – there was organized another round for occupying the last seat which, eventually, was won by the President of the Romanian Football Federation who cast the heaviest poll.
As members of the UEFA Executive Committee, there were also elected the Spaniard Angel Maria Villar Llona, the Turkish Senes Erzik, the Ukrainian Grigori Surkis, the Swiss Peter Gillieron, the Russian Serghei Fursenko and the Bulgarian Borislav Mihailov; the last three aforementioned members are at their first term as leaders of the of the European Forum.
During the congress, Michel Platini, UEFA President, was reelected for the second four year term.
Mircea Sandu is at his second term as a member of the UEFA Executive Committee after the one for which he stood in 2007.
