A network of migrant smugglers has been broken up by police and prosecutors in Galati - the suspects were transporting people from Afro-Asian countries across state borders to Western European countries for between €3.000 and €5.000 per migrant.
Romanian authorities have been working with the Moldovan authorities and have carried out several raids in both countries.
According to investigators, between 2022 and 2023, 11 persons under investigation, Romanian, Moldovan and dual citizens, organised in a criminal structure with hierarchical levels, transported migrants on several routes from Greece or Croatia to Hungary and Austria.
