On 19 October, 2007, Lucian Bute won the IBF world championship after having defeated the Colombian Alejandro Berrio.
Since then, the Romanian fighter has managed to defend his belt successfully for six times.
In early November, 2010, Bute signed a contract with the Showtime American television channel, for more matches.
