Romania is concerned about the fate of its citizens and soldiers in the Middle East, some of whom are already relocated - President Klaus Iohannis announced today.
President Klaus Iohannis: We have a lot of Romanian citizens living and working in the Middle East. We have people in Iraq, we have people in other countries in the area, we have representatives, and, in this sense, there are Romanian citizens exposed in the area. We are concerned and will take all measures to ensure real support, if needed.
On the other hand, we also have military personnel stationed in Iraq, who are part of NATO forces participating in various training projects. They are instructors and we are concerned about their safety. Some of our military have already been relocated.
German Army too has announced this afternoon that it has withdrawn part of its military in Iraq, invoking the security situation in this country.
