Universities in Transylvania (central Romania) are becoming more and more popular among young people in Hungary, some of whom do not return home after graduation, but try their luck in Transylvania.
On this subject, Krónika daily (Hungarian language newspaper in Cluj) addressed the Rectors of Babes-Bolyai University, Sapientia University and the University of Arts in Târgu Mureş, after these universities took part in the International Fair "Educatio" in Budapest.
According to all the three Rectors, the number of Hungarian students at Romanian universities tends to grow. Babes-Bolyai University's Vice-Rector, Anna Soós: The number of Hungarian students in Romania exceeded 100 in 2017. Young people from Hungary come to Cluj-Napoca primarily because of interesting programs, but also due to their parents' Transylvanian roots. This year, young Hungarians have enrolled at the Psychology, Anthropology and Economics Faculties of Babes-Bolyai University.
At the Budapest educational fair, a major interest was shown for the Faculty of Economics at the Sapientia University in Miecurea Ciuc, but Faculty of Informatics and Faculty of Arts in Târgu Mureş also enjoyed great popularity, as did the Faculty of Cinematography and Media in Cluj-Napoca, said Dean Márton Tonk from the Sapientia University, supported by the Hungarian state.
According to Vice-Rector András Balási, Hungarian students are attracted by the University of Arts in Târgu Mureş due to the high level of education. At this university, there are students not only from Hungary, but also from Vojvodina and Slovakia, most of whom study at the Faculty of Theater. Over the recent years, some of the Hungarian students who graduated from the Faculty of Theater have been hired in the theater troupes in Oradea or Satu Mare, added Vice-Rector András Balási.
