President Traian Basescu stated, during a meeting with delegation of the Venice Commission, visiting the Bucharest, that the government and the parliamentary majority made "a chain of abuses" from 3 to 6 July, but some of them were later corrected by other state institutions, including the Constitutional Court.
"If we talk about abuse, I believe that some of the political institutions, and I talk here about the government and the parliamentary majority, made a chain of abuses, such as the Ombudsman's dismissal by issuing ordinances that block the ability of the Constitutional Court to respond to constitutional abuses decided by parliament.
"This type of action occurred from 3 to 6 July and some of these abuses were corrected later by different state institutions, including the Constitutional Court," said Traian Basescu at a meeting with a delegation of the Venice Commission, which visited the Bucharest.
He also said he hoped that all Romanian institutions to cooperate with the delegation of the Venice Commission so that its members can "have correct conclusions" at the end of the documentation that they do these days in Bucharest.
According to the President of Romania, the main conclusion from the political events of the last two months is that state institutions - the Constitutional Court, the General Prosecutor or DNA - have resisted the political pressure, confirming that Romania is a country of law.
"The main conclusion is that in one way or another Romanian institutions resist the political pressure. They have managed to remain within each mission, if we discuss about the Constitutional Court, the General Attorney or DNA.
"These events give us the opportunity to acknowledge this reality, even if it is surprising for many people, is a confirmation that Romania is a state of law, in which the institutions can act when political abuse happens," said Traian Basescu.
The fact that state institutions resisted the political pressure was the topic approached by the Romanian president in his first speech after returning to Cotroceni.
The his first official appearance, Traian Basescu said that "state institutions remained standing, despite the attacks from 3 to 6 July ", when the first three people in the state, the Senate President, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the president of the country of which were added the Ombudsman were changed by the Social Liberal Union.
