Dacian Fortress Sarmizegetusa Regia reopens for tourists on Saturday, August 4. One section of road 705 A connecting Orăștie, Costești and Sarmizegetusa Regia is closed for restoration after heavy rain, therefore visitors who wish to see the Fortress may leave cars at the intersection where they enter the area called the "White Valley" and from here they can continue on foot (about 5.5 kilometers) to Sarmizegetusa Regia, according to a communiqué from the County Council Hunedoara.
UNESCO World Heritage, Dacian Fortress Sarmizegetusa Regia, capital of the Dacian Kingdom, located in the Orastie Mountains (central Romania) (C ii, iii, iv) consists of six Late Iron-Age defensive works, which were created in the 1st centuries BC and AD as protection against Roman conquest. Their extensive and well- preserved remains are located on a spectacular natural site and present a dramatic picture of a vigorous and innovative Iron Age civilization.
