In Constanta, the Romanian Naval Forces are organizing the annual international conference on maritime security in the Black Sea, together with representatives of allied navies and Euro-Atlantic organizations.
The theme of this year's edition is adapting the defense strategy to the current security context influenced by the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
Discussions are aimed at developing a maritime strategy for the Black Sea.
The event, hosted by the Mircea cel Batran Naval Academy, proposes a forum dedicated to debates on strategies that have implications for the structures responsible for security on the Black Sea and the Danube. Commander Marian Ioan, Deputy Chief of Naval Forces Staff for Operations and Training:
Commander Marian Ioan: Russia's unprovoked aggression against Ukraine and 1.000 days of war have brought multiple changes in maritime strategy. We want this conference to result in an exchange of ideas, principles on the basis of which we can start to build this strategy /.../ on the Black Sea. We want our navy to learn from the conflict in the immediate vicinity and to adapt, to be a modern navy, with means suited to the times.
Protection of critical infrastructure, navigational hazards in the Black Sea area, the use of unmanned systems in conducting maritime security operations and the identification of optimal solutions for equipping with modern and state-of-the-art equipment are the main topics addressed during the two-day conference.
