Bucharest residents can start applying for an electronic ID card from Thursday. Appointments can only be made online, and the first such documents will be in the possession of holders in the capital from May 12, says the Interior Ministry.
The new ID card will be the size of a bank card, replaces the health card, allows the electronic signature of documents and can be used for authentication in the computer systems of public institutions such as the National Tax Administration Agency and the National Health Insurance House.
The cost of an electronic ID card is 67 lei, but the first five million are issued free of charge because they are covered by the NRRP.
