Romanian Military Navy has performed its first Black Sea exercise of this year, in co-operation with its partners in the North Atlantic Alliance.
“King Ferdinand” Romanian frigate, with a Puma naval helicopter aboard, has been at sea along with the American destroyer USS Carney and a submarine belonging to Turkey's naval forces, for several exercises aimed at developing maritime interoperability among NATO Member States.
Romanian, American and Turkish military sailors focused on developing skills needed to fight in the sub-marine environment. Drills also included fighting with fire, repairing ship damage and abandoning ship.
During harbor entering and exiting maneuvers, participants practiced procedures for countering possible terrorist attacks launched aboard fast boats.
First phase of the drills, that took part on 11-13 January, precedes wider exercises scheduled for the end of January and early February, when drills in the Black Sea will be attended by NATO’s Standing Naval Forces in the Mediterranean.
