The candidacy of Calin Georgescu was challenged by the rector of the National School of Political and Administrative Studies, Remus Pricopie.
He says that the appeal is based on the fact that the Central Electoral Office is obliged to analyze the candidates, both in form and substance, as well as in relation to the Constitutional Court's rulings already handed down in the presidential elections.
"As a professor and rector of a university in Romania - says Remus Pricopie - I feel duty-bound to Romanians, but especially to young people and future generations, to take a stand against any attempt to undermine the fundamental principles of democracy and the rule of law", says Remus Pricopie.
Today, the current general mayor of the capital, Nicusor Dan, officially entered the presidential race, also as an independent, while the candidate of the ruling coalition PSD-PNL-UDMR, Crin Antonescu, is expected to arrive at the Central Electoral Office on Sunday to register.
