Anti-missile shield - Romania’s "vital contribution" to NATO
One of the most important subjects discussed by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is the anti missile shield, which will be hosted by Romania. NATO officials will also analyse the situation in Afghanistan and Africa.

Romania's decision to host key components of the anti missile defence system represents a vital contribution to the security of the entire Alliance, said Karl Lamers, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, on Friday.
The announcement was made in Bucharest, before the start of the 57th reunion of the organisation, which will also discuss NATO’s relation with Russia.
The international mission for peace, EULEX, is also on the list of subjects to be discussed; Romania has recently decided to retreat completely after its mandate ended.
Karl Lamers, the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, stated at Palatul Parlamentului, after the meeting with the Senate President, Mircea Geoană, that the there will be discussion on the post-2014 Afghanistan situation, when military operations will cease in the country.
The NATO official stated that it is important for Afghanistan citizens to feel safe, because that the country’s stability is important to the entire world.
Northern Africa, the anti missile shield and the situation in Serbia are important subjects to be discussed Saturday in Bucharest.
Mircea Geoană, the Senate President, also affirmed that, during his discussion with Karl Lamers, he pleaded for a balance between the USA, NATO and large countries near Afghanistan, like India or China.
Referring to the situation in Libyan, the Senate President said there were also talks how Romania could help this country.
The discussion included the subject of military budgets of the NATO countries.
