Romania’s National Women’s Handball Team won its first game at the European Handball Championship in France, defeating the Czech representative on Saturday, 1 December, National Day of Romania.
Sources quoted by EHF-EURO 2018 said that the Romanian anthem was probably sung louder than ever in a foreign handball arena, on the anniversary of 100 years from the Great Union, that set the basis for the modern unified Romanian state.
Team trained by Spaniard Ambros Martin played the preliminary round game – Group D of the European Championships in Brest, France - and defeated the Czechs with a score of 31-28 (17-11 at half time).
Main scorers were Cristina Neagu (eight goals) and Eliza Buceschi (nine goals). Eliza also received the Trophy for the best player of the match.
Romania’s National Women’s Handball Team now prepares to enter the Brest Arena and face Germany, on Monday, 3rd December, at 19:00. Also tonight starting at 22:00, Czech Republic will meet Norway.
