War Veteran's Day was marked on Tuesday in recognition of their merits in defence of Romania's independence and territorial integrity.
On Monday, retired General Ion Danila received the National Order for Merit in the rank of Knight at the National Military Circle Palace in the capital, while military and religious ceremonies were organised on Tuesday at the monuments to the country's heroes in Bucharest and across the country.
Eduard Bachide, Secretary of State in the Ministry of National Defence: Romania has 437 veterans and 13 widows. We honour and cherish war veterans, being aware that the moment will come in our history, as a nation, when we will say goodbye to the last Romanian veteran. This is precisely why, today, we are doing everything within our power, the Ministry of National Defence, to make things better for them and to help them as much as possible. The Ministry of National Defence honours our heroes and passes on our history, our heritage.
