Vice-President of India on official visit in Romania
President Iohannis said that during Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Romania will explore ways to bring India and the European Union closer.

Vice-President of India, Venkaiah M.Naidu, has been welcomed, on Wednesday, by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest. At a joint press conference after the talks, President Iohannis said that during the approaching Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January-July 2019), Romania will explore ways to bring India and the European Union closer.
Iohannis added that Vice-President Naidu is accompanied by a large business delegation and mentioned that he encouraged boosting economic relations and Indian investment in Romania.
"We also agreed that priority should be given to development, co-operation in the areas of culture, education and tourism, areas that have demonstrated throughout the history of the traditional relations between Romania and India that they are true friendship bridges", Head of State said.
In turn, India's Vice-President spoke about increasing and diversification of relations between the two countries. He stressed that talks with the Head of the Romanian State were productive and meaningful.
Venkaiah M.Naidu: Romania's Presidency of the EU Council will have a positive effect and we have all expectations that Romania will succeed to successfully perform its mandate. India is a traditional friend of Romania and we are anxious to intensify cross-border cooperation and friendship relations and to see that our countries cooperate successfully in the future.
Visit of Indian Vice-President in Romania takes place at the invitation of the President of the Romanian Senate, Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu. Agenda includes talks with Presidents of both chambers of the Romanian Parliament, Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu and Liviu Dragnea, and with the Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dăncilă, at the Victoria Palace, where the two high-officials are to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Governments of Romania and the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of tourism, says Agerpres.
On Wednesday evening, Călin Popescu-Tariceanu and Venkaiah M. Naidu will open the Romania-India Economic Forum, organized by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Visit of Indian Vice-President in Romania is part of a European tour that also includes Serbia and Malta.
