Vatican and Romanian authorities are preparing a visit of Pope Francis to Romania - Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See's Secretariat of State, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, announced on Tuesday in Bucharest, in a press conference after a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu.
Neither the Foreign Minister nor the Vatican official gave an exact date of Pope Francis' visit to Romania, but they confirmed that preparations were being made.
"Taking into consideration the extremely important symbolism of the event, for the representatives of all religions included, we have consented to make coordinated efforts for this highly important visit to be organised under the best conditions", the Archbishop pointed out.
The talks with the Head of the Romanian Diplomacy were also “an opportunity to share the concerns of the Catholic population in Romania and from around the world”, the Vatican official added, explaining that the Holy See desires to contribute to the future of Europe.
Romania and the Holy See have similar views on the future of Europe, migration and eastern neighborhood, Romanian Foreign Minister said.
