The United States does not want Romania to take steps back in the fight against corruption and the independence of the Judiciary, said United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, A. Wess Mitchell, during his stop-over in Bucharest, part of his official travel to Europe during 17-20 June.
The United States supports Romanian anti-corruption institutions, which are rare in the region and extremely important for the future of the Romanian democracy, mentioned the US official.
Wess Mitchell also said that the western value system is currently in a strategic competition - especially in the Black Sea region, Central and Eastern Europe - with undemocratic regimes such as those in Russia and China.
For the United States, the economic, energy and value resilience in Black Sea countries is important, Assistant Secretary Mitchell added and warned against the danger represented by the influence of Russia and China in the region.
