Romania's priorities during its EU Council Presidency have been presented in the United States at a recent conference of the Romanian Ambassador to Washington, George Maior.
When the European Union is strong, Transatlantic Partnership is also strong and to the benefit of both parties - Romanian Ambassador in the United States, George Cristian Maior, said at a conference at the Hudson Institute, where he presented the priorities of the Romanian EU Council Presidency.
Ambassador Maior: That's why we set the transatlantic relationship the priority of our EU Presidency. We want to change the current image, I would say wrong and unfair, about the Transatlantic Partnership, which sometimes focuses only on the differences of opinion between the European Union and the US on many subjects.
There is a need for a greater US involvement in Europe, said Ambassador Maior, who also referred to the main event of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council: summit on the future of Europe, to be held in Sibiu. Transatlantic Partnership will be on the Agenda, Romanian Ambassador said, adding that the Black Sea is a test for the security architecture and for the economic, regional and global architecture, in reference to freedom of navigation, international law and promotion of economic opportunities.
As Ambassador Maior reaffirmed, the ballistic missile defense system installed in Romania is purely defensive, both technically and legally; it is designed to deal with ballistic missile threats from the Middle East and is not related to Russia.
