Starting Tuesday, Bucharest joins the world capitals where you can use your mobile phone to pay for your travel and access to the subway.
Orange and Vodafone customers can pay a subway ride by sending an SMS to the short number 1700, received the payment confirmation immediately, also via SMS.
Also, they can choose for the purchase of 2 or 10 trips, sending the text 2C or 10C to the short number: 1700.
The price for one trip is 0.50 euro, for 2 trips is 0.90 euro and 3.25 euro for 10 trips costs, the prices being expressed exclusively without VAT.
The access to the station will be done by calling the free phone number 1700 and closing the phone receptor to validators especially installed into the metro stations on the access platform.
The phone will send a beep which will be played by the validator, setting in real-time if the customer account is valid, allowing the passengers’ access to the platform.

This new system of access to subway stations was tested last year and was considered reliable after processing more than 10,000 stations in the 7 pilot validations.
