Transfăgărășan High Altitude Road, that was partly closed during wintertime, was officially opened for the general traffic this morning, two weeks earlier than usually, according to a press release of the National Company of Administration of Road Infrastructure in Romania (CNAIR).
The part of Transfăgărășan that is closed each winter is in between Piscu Negru and Bâlea Cascadă, because of the risk of avalanche and stones falling.
The decision for the opening of Transfăgărășan earlier comes after a special inspection that took part on Thursday, June 15.
Specialists warn, though, the drivers and tourists not to stop their cars in the still dangerous places that are signposted and also to avoid driving at night, because of low visibility and the risk of thick fog. The Regulation states that traffic between 9.00 pm and 7 am is forbidden.
