The senate passed the draft law regarding the professional baccalaureate.
Senate plenum passed on Monday the draft regarding the professional Baccalaureate, with 73 votes “for”, 15 “against” and one abstention.
Senate was a decisional Chamber on this bill therefore the document is to be sent to the President for promulgation.
Twelfth grade students will be able to choose starting next summer between this type of baccalaureate and the national one.
Minister of Education, Ecaterina Andronescu, warned that if this project is not approved by the Senate it will be passed by an Emergency Ordinance of Government.
National Baccalaureate allows students access to university education whilst the professional Baccalaureate only allows access to labor market.
According to the bill, high-school graduate who sit and pass the professional Baccalaureate will acquire the professional baccalaureate degree which allows them to have access to the labor market but not to university education.
As the discipline of entrepreneurship is studied in all high-schools, the law allows every student to sit this exam regardless the profile or the high-school.
By law, the professional baccalaureate exam does not change the syllabus students have studied during high-school years and the professional baccalaureate exam will be organized chronologically before the written exams of the national baccalaureate.
In case a student who sits the professional baccalaureate wants to apply for higher education and changes his mind during the same exam session, the next one or after two exam sessions, he can return and sit the national baccalaureate exams after which he is allowed to university education.
