The allocation of 2.5% of the Gross Domestic Product allows the consolidation of the national defense force structure, Minister Angel Tilvar said yesterday, at the balance sheet of the Defense General Staff for last year.
Angel Tilvar emphasized that important steps were taken from the point of view of the modernization of the Army, the projects started previously were continued, the contract for the purchase of 32 F-16 aircraft was signed, equipment related to HIMARS systems, PIRANHA 5 derivatives were received and the contract for coastal missiles was awarded, according to an MApN press release. Procedures for other important programs, such as light armored tactical vehicles, have been initiated.
On the line of collective defense, last year an important role was played by the consolidation of NATO's presence on national territory, and the allied defensive device on the eastern flank and, implicitly, the Black Sea region was strengthened and balanced, MApN says.
The Chief of the Defense Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, specified that the year 2023 will take place under the sign of the recruitment of new personnel and the training of the existing ones.
