Romanian General Inspectorate for Immigration issued over 4,000 work permits for foreign citizens on Romanian territory, in the first half of 2018, twice as much compared to the same period in 2017. Documents were issued for permanent, seconded, highly qualified, season and trainee workers. Also in the first six months of 2018, over 1,200 foreign citizens were found in illegal situations on Romanian territory.
RRA Reporter Daniela Manuţă: "More than 100,000 foreign citizens were on Romanian territory, most of whom were settled in Bucharest and Ilfov, Timiş and Cluj. In reference to the citizenship of foreigners coming to work in Romania, first ranked is Vietnam, followed by Turkey, China, Serbia and Sri Lanka. General Inspectorate for Immigration also detected more than 1,200 foreign citizens residing illegally on Romanian territory, spokesperson Ermina Mihai said.
Ermina Mihai: Immigration police have issued more than 700 decisions for foreigners in illegal situations to leave Romania. Also, for 787 people, Immigration police applied the ban on entering Romania for different periods ranging from three months to 15 years. At the same time, 209 foreign citizens coming from Iraq, Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey and the Republic of Moldova were removed under escort".
As an alternative to forced removal, 48 migrants opted for the humanitarian voluntary repatriation program and left Romania on a date agreed with the International Organization for Migration.
