Six people and six IT firms charged with fraud by EU prosecutors

The European Public Prosecutor's Office announces that its office in Romania has this week referred to the Bucharest Tribunal for trial a case in which six individuals and six companies are accused of a €9.5 million fraud involving EU-funded IT projects.
According to a press release from the European Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigation took place in Romania, but also in other countries such as Malta, Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
The defendants are also accused of using false documents and money laundering. The acts were allegedly committed between 2019 and 2022.
European prosecutors also say that, if found guilty, the suspects could face prison sentences ranging from 3 to 10 and a half years.
The companies face asset forfeiture and a fine of up to €422.000.
