Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced on Thursday he would convene a referendum on Justice Laws, to be held same day with the European Elections, on May 26.
In a press statement at the Cotroceni Palace, President Iohannis severely criticized the PSD-ALDE government for issuing emergency ordinances in the field of Justice and continuously assaults the Judiciary.
RRA Reporter Oana Bâlă: "President Klaus Iohannis criticized the fact that the Executive often issues emergency ordinances and stressed that this does not fit the spirit of the Constitution and does not serve the democratic balance of the state powers. In his opinion, adoption of ordinances that amend criminal codes conflicts with the constitutional prerogative of the Parliament to legislate, as the Criminal Code is still under discussion in the legislative forum.
