The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday 8 March that it does not recognise the legitimacy of the presidential elections organised by the Russian authorities in the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhia, Herson, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, which are integral parts of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly discourages the participation of Romanian citizens or Romanian legal entities in the monitoring of the elections in the Russian Federation, as the Russian authorities have decided not to invite OSCE observers to the presidential elections in March 2024.
The presence of Romanian citizens in Ukrainian territories under Russian occupation, including for the purpose of election observation and monitoring, entails criminal and administrative consequences under Ukrainian law, the statement said.
