Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu has participated, on Tuesday, 21 August, as guest of honor at the annual meeting of the Slovak Diplomacy and, on the occasion, he discussed with Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini and his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajcak.

During speech in the opening of the Slovak Diplomacy meeting, Meleșcanu talked about the current situation in the European Union, and in reference to the future EU multiannual budget, he underlined that Romania and Slovakia support proper financing of EU's traditional policies.

Slovakia will support Bucharest during Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in the first six months of 2019, Teodor Meleșcanu said in an exclusive interview for Radio Romania.

Also on Tuesday, 21 August, Romanian Foreign Minister attended commemoration in Bratislava of 50 years since Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. Minister Meleșcanu laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial plaque in front of the Comenius University in Bratislava, devoted to the victims of 21 August 1968.

Head of Romanian Diplomacy: “The only country that did not participate in this invasion was Romania. It is a fortunate coincidence offering us the opportunity to see how appreciated Romania and the Romanians are. We also referred to the efforts the Romanian Army has made to liberate Slovakia, at the cost of significant human loss of life”.
