In the Babadag firing range, about 250 Romanian and Spanish soldiers took part on Thursday in a training with live ammunition, conducted as part of the multinational exercise "SEA SHIELD 25" - the largest exercise organized this year. For the servicemen of the Marine Infantry Regiment "Heracleea" from Babadag, the training was a first, as they have never interacted with their counterparts from Spain before - said the regiment's commander, Colonel Marius Gheorghescu.
Marius Gheorghescu: Romania has an outlet to the Black Sea and this outlet to the Black Sea is of essential importance for the Romanian economy, for the nation. The defense of the coastline, of the sea exit is an essential part of national and allied defense, as you can see. We have worked over the years with American partners, with British partners, with French partners. This year, this is the first time we have Spanish partners in the exercise and we have discovered a lot of common elements, both in terms of modus operandi, doctrine, in terms of techniques, tactics and combat procedures.
Radio Romania NEWS correspondent Luiza Rosetti recalls that the multinational exercise, in which more than 2.300 soldiers from Romania and 11 other allied partner states are taking part, will end on Friday. It is the largest NATO maritime exercise organized this year in Romania.
