Future agenda of the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council has been the most important issue that has been discussed on Tuesday, at the Victoria Palace in Bucharest, by Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and her Slovak counterpart Peter Pellegrini. Heads of Government also talked about bilateral cooperation, including at sectoral level and other topics related to the European agenda.
Head of the Romanian Executive referred, among other things, to EU’s cohesion policy, which ensures convergence, but also reduces the development differences between Member States.
Viorica Dăncilă: Both Slovakia and Romania, as beneficiaries of this policy, are clear evidence of the importance this policy has at European level. In this context, I have stressed that Romania, during its EU Presidency, will give priority to advance negotiations on the future multiannual financial framework 2021-2027. As far as the EU's internal security is concerned, the objective of strengthening Europe's security will be other priority of Romania during its six-months presidency of the EU Council.
Romania’s takeover of the EU Council Presidency in January 2019 will also have the support of Slovakia, said Peter Pellegrini, Head of the Bratislava Government.
Peter Pellegrini: Slovakia offers its services to help Romania, given that it has already held the Presidency of the European Union. We wish to accomplish this also from the position of the V4 format chairman, in Visegrad, because I consider that this collaboration between the two presidencies, of the European Union and of the V4 format will contribute to our societies' prosperity and democracy", Pellegrini declared.
Migration has also been on the agenda of the talks, as the Slovak Premier stated, saying that the Schengen Area needs to be enlarged in order to better protect the EU's borders.
Romania also has the support of the Bratislava authorities in reference to its integration into Schengen Area, Peter Pellegrini said.
