The North Atlantic Alliance remains the foundation of collective defense, interim President Ilie Bolojan said after attending the European Council meeting in Brussels, where a plan to strengthen the continent's security and defense was approved.
He explained that member states will be able to conduct joint defense procurement, which is an opportunity for the national defense industry.
Ilie Bolojan said that all military arrangements Romania has made with the United States will be respected.
"NATO still remains the foundation of collective defense and NATO without the United States of America cannot respect this foundation. Therefore, I believe that all the military arrangements that Romania has made with the United States, with companies from the United States must be respected and there are budgets allocated for this purpose, so there is a continuity of all NATO programs in Romania and there are no problems from this point of view", said Ilie Bolojan.
On the other hand, when asked about the possibility that the Trump administration might postpone the introduction of the Visa Waiver system for Romania by two months for technical reasons, Ilie Bolojan said that the competent institutions will announce the date of entry into force when they will be officially informed.
Visa Waiver for Romania should have come into force around March 31.
