Romania has started to become an important player on the semiconductor production market and aims to attract substantial European funds to develop this sector, says the Minister of Economy, Florin Spataru. He explained the undeniable advantages we have, as well as the measures taken to make the project a success.
"We have managed to complete the process of selection and transmission to the European Commission of eligible direct and indirect companies to participate in this program funded by the National Resilience Plan, worth 500 million. Romania is one of the Eastern European countries that has the capacity to develop such an ecosystem. We are talking about tradition, a tradition that started in the '70s and' 80s, we are talking about resources and we are also talking about human capital that is properly developed", said Florin Spataru.
Devices made of semiconductor materials are the basis of modern electronics, being components used in the manufacture of computers or phones and in the automotive industry or Internet infrastructure.
Amid the acceleration of the digitization process, the global semiconductor crisis arose during the COVID pandemic and, amplified by the war in Ukraine, forced many industries to reduce their production.
