Vaccines adapted for the currently circulating strains of coronavirus could arrive in Romania in October.
The Minister of Health specified that the anti-COVID doses will be administered with priority to the elderly, those with chronic diseases and pregnant women, in parallel with the flu vaccine.
Regarding the wearing of sanitary masks, Dr. Alexandru Rafila says that it cannot be imposed in the current conditions and that this must be an individual decision.
Alexandru Rafila: Considering that it is a very hot season this year, I think that voluntary compliance is more important than mandatory, because in the case of using the mask it is very, very important to use the mask correctly. Imposing a mask and using it incorrectly is a measure that, unfortunately, has no impact on public health, and that's why I think the awareness and responsibility of each one of us is more important than the introduction of the obligation.
Reporter: The health authorities still recommend the use of the mask in closed spaces and in public transport, respecting the norms of individual hygiene and avoiding crowds when it is possible.
The number of Romanians hospitalized with COVID-19 decreased by 40 compared to yesterday, announced the Ministry of Health.
Almost 4.000 people infected with coronavirus are hospitalized today, and the number of those in Intensive Care Units is around 300.
Out of the total hospitalized patients, 550 are children. In hours, 41 deaths among patients with COVID have been reported. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 66.000 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died in Romania.
