President Traian Basescu returned, Tuesday, to Cotroceni after all legal procedures have been completed to resume his duties as head of state.
Antonescu's interim ended Monday evening, after the invalidation decision of the referendum from July the 29th was read within the Parliament and published in the Official Gazette.
The Constitutional Court upheld the referendum results provided by the Central Electoral Commission and found that out of 18,292,464 persons listed in the permanent electoral lists participated at the vote 8,459,053 people (46.24 percent), of which 7,403,836 (87.52 percent) answered "Yes" to the question "Do you agree with the dismissal of the President of Romania?" and 943,375 (11.15 percent) responded "No," according to the statement released by the CCR.
However, CCR found that at the referendum did not attend at least half plus one of the voters included in the permanent electoral lists for the referendum to be valid in accordance with Article 5 (2) of the Referendum Act.
CCR’s decision was taken by the majority provided by law, or by a vote of two-thirds of the nine judges.
Also, on Monday night was published the dissenting opinion of the three judges of the CCR who disagreed with the decision of invalidation report.
Judge Ion Predescu, Acsinte Gaspar and Tudorel Toader, who did dissent from the decision on invalidating the July 29 referendum, have argued their disagreement through the fact that the decision was taken based on the "eratta" at the adoption of which they were not consulted.
