Partnerships with the European Union, the United States and NATO remain the pillars of Romania's foreign policy, President Klaus Iohannis said, criticizing the Government again because it had initiatives in the field without consulting him.
President’s statement has been made in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he attends the EU-Western Balkans summit.
Romania will not enter into a logic of adversity with the US, considering the fact that a good transatlantic relationship is vital, Head of State said. He expressed dissatisfaction, though, that some politicians in Bucharest are talking about a choice to be made between the US and the European Union.
Klaus Iohannis: "I deeply dislike that there are some people in Romania who are trying to induce the idea that we have to choose between the United States and Europe. This is wrong, even this very idea is profoundly toxic and counterproductive. We, Romanians, have chosen both the United States and the European Union, no one has forced us to. It was our will, and we will stay this course".
In Sofia, President Iohannis will highlight, during the summit, importance of connectivity in infrastructure, energy and digital networks.
