Representatives of the European Consumers' Organization are in Romania on Wednesday and Thursday, for a working visit. They will provide details and clarifications on the new European consumer protection legislation that the EU Members enjoy starting with 1 January 2019.
Under the new regulations, in the case of electronic or home electronics products, the seller and not the buyer is the one who must prove, within the first six months from delivery, that product meets standards.
Costel Stanciu, President of Romanian Association for Consumers’ Protection (APC): A fundamental right is the right to choose. For this, there must be a diversified offer and that offer must also be safe for consumers. In the event of problems with the quality of the products concerned, the consumer has the right to be compensated. Manufacturer must provide a minimum guarantee for the product. Legal guarantee is two years for products with a life span of over two years, some producers grant a larger guarantee than the legal one, it is called a commercial guarantee and that can be three, four, five years and ensures the consumer that the product is high quality.
