The demonstrations dedicated to the Navy Day in Constanta gathered thousands of tourists and locals who came to witness the exercises prepared by sailors and the parade of military ships. Actions dedicated to Navy Day were also organized in the Capital.
Wreaths were laid at the Monument of Marine Heroes in front of the jetty on Lake Herastrau, to the tunes of brass band music, then a wreath in the shape of an anchor was launched into the water, as a tribute to the marine heroes.
The event was preceded by a religious procession and a laying of wreaths in front of the Monument of Marine Heroes, attended by officials from the Romanian Army, as well as representatives of the Romanian Naval League.
Commander Hristea Butnaru, director of the General Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces, presented the joint order of the Minister of National Defense, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
Hristea Butnaru: Romanian Navy Day, the celebration of military and civilian sailors, shipbuilders and port workers, was formalized as a celebration of Romanian sailors 121 years ago, on August 15, the Day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The day has a special place in the national consciousness, through the prism of its unique character as a festival of the sea and of maritime spirituality. In the Black Sea basin, Romania has the responsibility of defending the state border, the border of the European Union and NATO, and the Romanian Naval Forces have an essential role in achieving this objective. Dear sailors, on the occasion of the Romanian Navy Day, we sincerely congratulate you and wish you success in everything you undertake. May God and Saint Mary bless you and protect you! Good luck ahead and happy birthday!
