The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) send about 135 soldiers and four CF-18 Hornet of the Royal Canadian Air Force to Constanţa, Romania, to take part in NATO Air Police activities from September to December 2017, according to www.45enord.ca news site, taken over by Agerpres.
This mission is part of the REASSURANCE operation and represents Canada's contribution to NATO assurance and deterrence measures.
The Air Task Force (FOA) in Romania will strengthen the capacity of the Romanian Air Force to maintain the integrity of its airspace.
NATO’s enhanced Air Policing activities are part of the Alliance's assurance and deterrance measures from 2014 onwards.
These measures demonstrate the allied collective determination to protect the populations and territories of NATO Member States.
CAF deployed an FOA in Romania for the first time under the REASSURANCE operation between April and August 2014, at the Air Force Base 71 of the Romanian Air Force, in Câmpia Turzii.
