Romania and Ukraine have resumed talks concerning ministers of exterior, after more than two years, on the hot topics which led to the cooling of relations between the two countries.
The problem of the minorities or that of the Bîstroe Channel were on today’s meeting agenda.
Many Romanians in Ukraine have complained over the course of time either of pressure to declare themselves as Moldovans and not Romanian, or the lack of schools in Romanian.
‘We are concerned that the two minorities enjoy European rights at the same standards and that we discuss without prejudices about how we can improve their situation, the Minister of Exterior, Teodor Baconschi, stated.
Another hot topic is recovering the huge investment made by Romania in the Krivoi Rog mill during the communist regime.
The Ukrainian Minister of Exterior, Konstantin Grişcenko, only stated that negotiations are being conducted in order to find a convenient solution for both parties.
Regarding the installment of the elements of the American missile shield in Romania, Ukraine does not show the same resistance as Russia.
Minister Grişcenko declared the consolidation of the entire Europe’s defense is natural and that Ukraine was interested in having consultations with Romania and the US in this regard.
The two ministers noted the improvement of bilateral relations, including through negotiations for updating the legal bilateral framework.
The future new agreements could be signed by the two heads of state at a meeting that is to be set immediately after the documents are being finalized by the experts.
