Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca declared on Friday, in Baia Mare, that the representatives of the Government will continue to make approaches to the European Commission to support the idea that military pensions fall under the category of service pensions and that they are not special pensions.
"As far as military pensions are concerned, we also discussed this aspect, including with representatives of the (European) Commission, who were on a technical visit to Bucharest (...) We discussed the report presented by the World Bank, in the content of which is written very clearly that military pensions do not belong to the chapter of special pensions, but to the chapter of service pensions. Military pensions were modified by law and are based on contribution, and at our level we continue to support the reform of the pension system on basis of contribution and we continue so that in the steps we will take in the future with the European Commission we reach a very clear understanding in accordance with the principles that the other states in the European Union also respect about military pensions, according to which they are not special pensions, but service pensions", declared Nicolae Ciuca, who was on a visit to Maramures county.
