In Ip locality, from Salaj county, a military and religious ceremony took place in memory of the victims of the massacre committed 81 years ago by Hungarian troops.
157 Romanians were shot, stabbed with a bayonet, thrown into a mass grave, and then lime was thrown over the corpses.
Today, people of culture, historians and descendants of the survivors were present at the tomb of the martyrs, according to our correspondent, Adrian Lungu.
Speeches, moments of silence and messages were scheduled so that such black pages in human history would not be repeated.
Around noon, wreaths were laid at the common grave of the 157 martyrs - men, women, elderly and children killed on the night of September 13-14, 1940.
Every year, a moment of silence is held at the tomb of the martyrs from Ip and wreaths are laid with the urge that such atrocities do not happen again. The events that took place at Ip are part of the series of anti-Romanian massacres carried out on the territory of Northern Transylvania in the autumn of 1940, Rador reports.
