The US Air Force continues its missions in the North African region where it operates six bases from where it launched hundreds of air strikes on ISIS positions. In addition, hundreds of other air operations have been deployed for recognition and gathering information. General Tod Wolters, US Air Force Commander for Africa and Europe, mentioned the NATO Air Force mission for the Baltic States where US combat aircraft is on the fifth rotation. Other information mentioned by the American commander referred to the military exercises scheduled for this period in Ukraine. In these maneuvers, the American Air Force will participate with a C-135 plane specifically prepared for support missions as well as for medical support. RRA Reporter Radu Dobrițoiu asked General Tod Wolters to refer to the Mihail Kogălniceanu Airbase used by the American Air Force for logistical or training missions:
This is a very good question. I had the opportunity to visit the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base and to see the operational capabilities there. We had several missions based on rotation with NATO aircraft at the airport there. The Mihail Kogălniceanu Base has the function of a force multiplier due to its geographical position. In order to better understand this capacity, we ensure that we have periodic missions, because Mihail Kogălniceanu Base obviously has a very good positioning. I would like to remind that when I visited the base, I was extremely impressed by the hospitality of the Romanians. I have a very good relationship with [General] Laurian Anastasof, the commander of the Romanian Air Force. We collaborated at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Base in many missions involving NATO or US military aircraft. I am impressed by the modernization of Romania's military aviation. A very good military base there, with wonderful people.
In a press conference where Radio Romania News (RRA) was also represented, General Tod Wolters also referred to the large-scale Zapad 2017 exercise that Russia will start in a few days. The US commander said that NATO is ready for any situation or any accident that might occur during the deployment of the Russian military application. Alliance troops are ready for anything with both aerial, ground or naval capabilities.
